We have 18 great new tracks to bring to you this week. Trailer comes from 2 – the second album from Mudcrutch, the side project of Tom Petty (and also the name of his very first band who released one single and then disbanded back in 1970). It will be released as a 7″ for record store day and has that wonderful ‘Tom Petty’ feel to it, for want of a better term.
Michael Kiwanuka returns in May with a brand new album called Love & Hate. It’s been a long time coming and apparently was very hard work, but the lead single called Black Man In A White World is very strong and may surprise some of his fans who were used to his simple ‘one man and a guitar’ sound.
New York Is My Home is the title track to the latest album from Dion and the title track is a duet between himself and Paul Simon. They’ve been friends for many years and when Dion sent the song to Simon, he was very excited at the idea of duetting on it. Both artists come from New York of course and feel a strong affinity to the city, which is apparent in this song.
Laura Gibson released Empire Builder on 1st April, of which The Cause is the lead song. She’s had a tough few years – she moved from Portland to New York and within weeks her flat burned down and she slipped off a kerb and broke her foot. A lot of lyrics to unrecorded songs were also sadly lost in the fire, along with her only guitar, but she’s back and has put together a fine collection here on her 4th album.
